Metamorphic Landscapes
Genesis
Divergent Realities

She is a multidisciplinary textile and color designer. Her work explores the concept of observation as a multi-sensory process. She synthesizes her impressions of cities and reinterprets them through the abstract textural form in weaving, drawing, and painting. The congestion, dynamism, architectural phenomena, and immensity of cities inspire her work. In her woven pieces, she uses repetition to express the geometry of building facades, windows, and their reflectivity. When she is weaving on a Floor or Dobby Loom, stacking threads, yarns, and ropes as weft in repeated continuous motion, she is reminded of the hustle and bustle of metropolitan pedestrians. She also highlights color phenomena inspired by the light and shadow on facades and window surfaces. She believes colors are a sensing experience and emphasizes Carlos Cruz-Diez’s theory of chromo-interference, focusing on how color is affected by subtraction when superimposing the structure. She believes the city is not just a concrete jungle, but rather a cycle of constant change and repetition, moving light and color. Her multidisciplinary works express the beauty of the city’s energy and liveliness.

METAMORPHIC LANDSCAPES explores artistic transformation of natural materials and environments, where artists weave their surroundings into narratives using materials as metaphors, ultimately reshaping our perception of evolving landscapes.

Son captures the essence of urban life, not by replicating its physicality but by translating the sensory overload of a city into a rich, tactile experience. Through the interplay of texture and color, Son creates a visual rhythm that echoes the relentless pulse of metropolitan spaces. Her use of screen prints layered over woven structures offers a nuanced commentary on the constant flux and repetition inherent in city environments.

The piece challenges the viewer to engage with the city not just as a static entity but as a living, breathing organism, where every thread and hue vibrates with the energy of urban existence. Son’s work invites us to explore the city as an immersive, multi-sensory experience, emphasizing the subtle yet powerful ways in which light, shadow, and color shape our perceptions of the world around us.
