Divergent Realities

“Death is an inevitable aspect of life for all beings in this world. We confront and experience death from the moment of our birth until our eventual demise. This piece is dedicated to everyone who has undergone the loss of someone close and grappled with the complex emotions that accompany the process of recovery. Despite my acknowledgment of this universal truth, acceptance proved challenging when I encountered it in my own life—particularly the moment I learned that someone who had been alive just seconds before was no longer among the living. The reality of the situation becomes palpable when you gaze upon their lifeless faces. It is at this juncture that I felt a sense of futility amidst all the desires I clung to, the struggles within relationships, and the material possessions I carried. Ultimately, everything becomes devoid of meaning.”

METAMORPHIC LANDSCAPES explores artistic transformation of natural materials and environments, where artists weave their surroundings into narratives using materials as metaphors, ultimately reshaping our perception of evolving landscapes.
Through her personal journey of grappling with loss and the stark realities that follow, Choung challenges conventional boundaries of understanding and invites viewers to reflect on the profound shifts in personal narratives and societal constructs that occur in the face of death. Her work serves as a poignant reminder of the divergent realities we navigate when confronted with the inevitability of mortality, prompting a contemplation of how these experiences reshape our perspectives on life, relationships, and the pursuit of meaning.
