METAMORPHIC LANDSCAPES explores artistic transformation of natural materials and environments, where artists weave their surroundings into narratives using materials as metaphors, ultimately reshaping our perception of evolving landscapes.
The use of Jogakbo as their muse is particularly fitting for this theme. Jogakbo, a traditional Korean patchwork technique, inherently represents transformation and evolution. Each piece of fabric, once part of a different whole, is brought together to form a new, cohesive entity. This process mirrors the way personal and collective histories are interwoven, constantly evolving into new forms. By presenting these fabrics in a modern arrangement, Seoyoung Kim and Lumin Kim invite viewers to reflect on the continuity and change in their own lives.
The addition of warm-colored light bulbs enhances this reflective atmosphere, creating a cozy, inviting space for contemplation. The warm light not only adds a sense of comfort but also symbolizes enlightenment and the illumination of personal and cultural narratives. It transforms the space, making it a haven for introspection and connection.
